Obama Administration -- Political & Policy Issues that Matter

G'Day All --

For those who are interested, The Civic Action Free University's National Policy Issues page now has links for the complete collection of Obama Administration Straight Talk Political and Policy Issues that Matter.

Just scroll down the page to the 2nd big orange-colored panel:

http://www.angelfire.com/ca4/yourturf/nationalpolicyissues.htm

For purposes of contrast and comparison, the Ralph Nader Straight Talk Political and Policy Issue material is a little farther down the page, on the 3rd orange-colored panel.

The Civic Action Free University -- An Upgrade for User Convenience

G'Day All --

Based on user feedback, a very simple (but perhaps significant) change has been made to The Civic Action Free University's web page.

If you would like to have a look, go to the site, at:

http://www.tcafu.net

... and check the newly added:

>>>    Important Notice for First-Time Visitors    <<<

The problem that many new users were having seemed to be caused by the very normal habit of just scrolling down the page, in order to see what's there.  But, because the page is so extensive, the scrolling process tended to become a confusing and "eye-glazing" experience.

The hope is that the simple -- but quite prominent -- new note at the beginning of the page will encourage new visitors to use the "Site Contents and Instant Access" panel, thereby greatly simplifying familiarization with the page's contents.

But, of course, the effectiveness of this modification will be determined by the "real world" experience reported by site visitors.

If you have any reactions -- pro or con -- please feel free to let me know.

The Poor Voter on Election Day

The Poor Voter on Election Day
                       by
John Greenleaf Whittier  (1852)

The proudest now is but my peer,
The highest not more high;
Today, of all the weary year,
A king of men am I.

Today, alike the great and small,
The nameless and the known;
My palace is the people's hall,
The ballot-box my throne!

Who serves today upon the list
Beside the served shall stand;
Alike the brown and wrinkled fist,
The gloved and dainty hand!

The rich is level with the poor,
The weak is strong today;
And sleekest broadcloth counts no more
Than homespun frock of gray.

Today let pomp and vain pretense
My stubborn right abide;
I set a plain man's common sense
Against the pedant's pride.

Today shall simple manhood try
The strength of gold and land;
The wide world has not wealth to buy
The power in my right hand!

While there's grief to set redress,
Or balance to adjust,
Where weighs our living manhood less
Than Mammon's vilest dust --

While there's a right to need my vote,
A wrong to sweep away,
Up! clouted knee and ragged coat!
A man's a man today!

Item 2:  Invitation -- Share Your Pick for "Best Editorial Cartoon of the Week" with Your Co-Subscribers.

The details:

In the "Morning Coffee & Muffin" Section of The Civic Action Free University's News and Media Center:

http://www.angelfire.com/ca4/yourturf/tcafunewscenter.htm#Coffee

... you have undoubtedly seen a link to:  "Some of the Most Creative Recent Editorial Cartoons."  That site can be accessed directly, at:

http://www.cagle.com/

At your convenience, try taking a few minutes to surf through the weekly cartoons, and share your pick for "Best of the Week" with the rest of us.

Identifying the cartoon you've selected is quite simple -- all you need to do is copy the web address of the page on which it appears, and indicate the cartoon by its caption.

Or, if you want to be more specific, select the cartoon you like by right-clicking on its image, and then clicking on:  "Copy Image Location."  This image web address (i.e., the cartoon's URL) can then be posted, and should take viewers directly to the cartoon you've selected.

Feel free to include any comments you would like to make about the one(s) you've chosen.

This activity should be interesting and fun.  If you have friends or associates who might like to participate, please pass the information along to them.

Happy Oktoberfest !!

G'Day All --

As you probably know, in Germany Oktoberfest is now celebrated during September, in order to increase the likelihood of favorable weather.  So the greeting provided below -- coming to you in October -- is a little late.

Nevertheless, I hope you'll enjoy it.  I try to include quite a few "bells and whistles" on pages like this, so visitors willing to take a little time will encounter a number of pleasant treats.

Be sure to explore "Kilroy's Oktoberfest Kaleidoscope -- Celebrating the Twelve Kegs of Oktoberfest," on the big yellow panel about halfway down the page.

In case you happen to notice, I confess to having "recycled" a few images from Saint Patrick's Day:  (a) because I kind of like them,  and (b) because both festivals celebrate -- in different ways -- some of the same things.  If the duplications strike you as unacceptable, you are excused from any responsibility to look at them.

Have a good time !!

Happy Oktoberfest !!
